I was recently asked by visitors to suggest a good pub or restaurant in the city and frankly I had a hard job to do so as there are so many good eateries. Instead, I listed my favourites six as follows:
Valentino’s in Foregate Street. Fabulous if you like good freshly cooked pasta at reasonably prices. Go with an appetite as the portions are very generous.
Little Venice: Off the High Street. Excellent if you love Pizza and it is all authentic cookery here. The toppings are delicious, the staff friendly, and I love just popping in for a quick snack. It is without doubt on my top three hit list.
Monsoon opposite the Law Courts, if you love Curries is exquisite. The décor, menu, staff and most importantly, the food. I like to eat there as often as possible.
Café Rouge, off the Shambles. If you love French Cuisine, this is a wonderful place to eat. I’ve tried everything on the menu and I never know which is my favourite. The atmosphere and staff are always welcoming and its just so French.
The Nightingale, at Spetchley, a little further out of town but if you like country coaching inn’s then this is a must. Romantic surroundings, excellent home cooked food and a great atmosphere. Lovely log fires are very welcoming and its my Autumn /Winter best eating place.
The Coventry Arms, at Upton Snodsbury. Again, a lovely country pub, excellent home cooked food, but you really need to book ahead as its very popular. A welcome always awaits, and I save this one for special occasions and really push the boat out and enjoy something lavish. It’s my number one eatery!
