A wonderfully romantic 30 acre Victorian Garden paradise, lying three miles east of Worcester, Spetchley is set in magnificent countryside with views to the Malvern Hills. The home of the Berkeley family and boasting plant collections from all over the world, Spetchley is a real plantsman's haven.
As with many gardens, Spring is an exceptionally beautiful time to visit and offers wild primroses, carpets of crocus and billowing daffodils. One is greeted with enchanting vista’s and surprises around every corner. Of the many special secret areas at Spetchley are the Horse Pool, peaceful walks, the new Kitchen Garden, the Ornamental Lake and not forgetting the lovely parkland with its Deer enclosure.
Elgar once stayed at the garden’s cottage at Spetchley and on hearing the wind in the pine trees inspired him to write the sounds into his great work ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ The 1970’s decimated the elm trees, however much of the actual gardens and parkland have remained unchanged over the years. It is one of three gardens opened for the National Gardens Scheme of 1924.
