Help For Haiti Tour Announced by New Local Music Promoter to Raise Funds for the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal

By Lisa Ventura

Lisa Ventura, Creative Director & Managing Editor of Worcester Women has formed a new music promotions company to organise a tour of bands and musicians in various music venues throughout February to raise funds for the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Kicking off with a special launch gig on Saturday 30th January 2010 at the Marrs Bar in Worcester, the Help for Haiti tour is the brainchild of Lisa Ventura, formerly of the Worcester Music Festival. Lisa will be organising various gigs in venues throughout Worcester and Malvern in February to draw together the local music community in the area and fund-raising gigs are planned in The Lamb West Malvern, Worcester Arts Workshop, The Mount Pleasant in Malvern and more.

The launch event at the Marrs Bar starts at 6pm with the first act on stage at 6.45pm and features live performances from Chris Jones, Polar Rays, Becky Rose, Inca Hoots and headlining the event will be Ross on Wye’s finest The Dandelion Killers. It costs £3 on the door with a raffle and T-shirts for sale, and all proceeds will go to the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Lisa Ventura from Wizard Promotions said: “The inspiration for the tour came when I saw the news reports come in from Haiti showing the devastation there and they put things into perspective when I realised that I, like many of us, had been moaning about a couple of weeks of bad weather. Seeing all the TV footage moved me to tears and I thought, what could I do to help raise a bit of money to help them? I decided to organise a one-off gig in Worcester to raise funds but then a colleague suggested a “Help For Haiti” tour, and Wizard Promotions was born”.

Although the line-up at the Marrs Bar is complete for the launch gig, Lisa is still looking for help.

“We are currently looking for musicians and bands who are willing to play and donate their time to help support this worthy fund-raising appeal, and other volunteers to help promote the tour through their networks and online social media channels e.g. myspace, facebook and twitter,” she said. “We are also looking for other promoters who are putting on live music in February and would like to join in the fund-raising efforts. And if you can’t make any of the fund-raising events we have planned, you can still donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/wizardpromotions - please donate to the cause even if you can only spare £1, as every little bit helps”.
